Glossary

Who this is for: anyone who sees a word in unplan and wonders what it means. The words are in alphabetical order.

Word What it means
Accept the plan Your “yes” in the vote. When you both accept, the plan opens. See your weekly plan.
Afterglow A few quick, private questions the day after your night: Do it again?, some tags, and one photo. It helps shape next week’s plan. See Sunday afterglow.
At-home plan A free plan for a night in. No venues, no bookings, nothing to buy. You get one if you choose Stay in instead, or if you do not both say yes before the vote closes (24 hours before the date: Friday evening for a Saturday date).
Blind vote You vote without seeing what your partner chose. You only see that they voted.
Breadcrumb mode A way to keep the night a surprise. You only see the stop you are at. The next one opens when you tap We’re done here. See the night.
Class or tour Something to do from a tours and activities site such as Viator: a cooking class, a food tour, a cruise. It can be the “do” part of a date or of a weekend away, and it stays sealed like any stop. You book it on the provider’s site through a referral link. See a weekend away, tours and classes.
Clues The four small hints on a sealed plan: Leave home, Spend, Getting there and Wear. They tell you everything except where.
Date Night Candidate A venue that put itself forward to appear in plans. See for venues.
Double date Inviting another couple to your plan. See Keep the Spark.
Free plan The plan you get at no cost: at-home and low-cost ideas, every week.
Getaway A sealed plan for one or two nights away: getting there, a stay and one to three things to do. You vote on it blind, like your weekly plan, with one last call. We ask Fancy a weekend away? at most once a month, only if you set your Weekend away limits. See a weekend away.
Gift code A prepaid code for 3 or 12 months of Keep the Spark. See gift codes.
Guardrails The rules you set together: home base, radius, budget, how you get around, food rules (including no alcohol) and free nights. We never break them.
Idea box Where you suggest one place a month you’d love to go. We check it first; it may then turn up in a plan, still sealed. Your partner never sees it. See your idea box.
Home base The place plans start from. Your city follows it.
Journal Your history of plans, with your photo and your own answer for each. It lives in the Journal tab.
Just this weekend A one-time $2.99 option that opens this week’s premium plan. See Keep the Spark.
Keep the Spark The subscription. A premium plan every Thursday, and one subscription covers you both.
Last call The one alternative you both see after a veto. There is never a third card.
Nudge A short message you can send once a week to a partner who has not voted. It never says how you voted.
Pairing link The link you send your partner so you become a couple in the app.
Plan B When rain, a closure or a cancelled table makes us swap one stop after the plan has opened. You are told right away, and you can sometimes keep the original. See Plan B.
Plan number Each plan has a number just for your couple, shown like a ticket number, for example No. 041.
Radius How far from your home base plans can go.
Referral link A link to the provider’s own site (Viator, Booking.com) where you book and pay. We may earn a commission from it. It never decides what we pick, and unplan sells no travel.
Reveal The moment the plan opens after two yeses and you see the places, the times and any table held.
Rules too tight What we say when fewer than five plans fit your guardrails. You can loosen one thing for one week, if you both agree.
Sealed plan The Thursday plan with its venues hidden. It shows a teaser line and clues, never the place.
Seal broken The seal on the ticket breaks when you both say yes. The app says Both in. It’s a date.
Skip a week Take a week off without losing your streak. See skipping a week.
Stay in Choosing a free at-home plan instead of going out.
Streak The number of weeks in a row you had a date: a night out or the at-home plan. A week you skipped on purpose doesn’t break it; a week where nobody voted ends it.
Thank-you One short line you can send your partner after the afterglow. They see the words on This week, never your rating. See a thank-you.
Table hold A table a venue agrees to keep for you under one partner’s first name. It comes with Keep the Spark or a weekend unlock.
Teaser The short, mysterious line on your sealed plan, such as “Cozy vibes, neon lights & street food style.” It never names a place.
Veto Your “no” in the vote. It opens the last call. There is one veto a week for the two of you.
Vote deadline About 24 hours before your date starts, your city’s time (earlier if a venue holding your table needs more notice). After that, the night becomes a free at-home plan if you have not both said yes.
Waitlist A list for cities where unplan is not open yet. We email you when yours opens. See changing your city.
