For venues

Who this is for: owners and managers of cafés, bars, restaurants, activities and other places that would like to appear in couples’ weekly plans.

Where to find it. The form is at unplan.me/venues. On the site it is in the footer of every page, under For business, next to Partners (services such as sitters and florists) and Resellers (city partners). The main menu at the top is for couples.

unplan plans date night for busy couples. Every Thursday at 6 PM each couple gets one sealed plan for the weekend. The plan shows the mood, the spend and what to wear, but not where. Both partners vote in private. Only when both say yes does the plan open with the venues, the times and any table held.

Couples do not browse or compare. When your place is on the card, they arrive having already said yes.

It costs nothing. There is no listing fee and no commission.

Putting your venue forward

Go to unplan.me/venues. It takes about three minutes. You will be asked for:

  • Venue name, and address or neighbourhood.
  • What kind of place? Pick all that fit: Cocktail bar, Restaurant, Dessert & coffee, Activity, Arts & culture, Live music, Outdoors.
  • Typical spend for two: Under $50, $50–100, $100–200 or $200+.
  • Best nights for a date at yours.
  • What makes it a great date? We use your words to help write the sealed teaser. For example: a hidden door, the view, the dish you have to share.
  • Can you hold a table for unplan couples? Yes, Sometimes or No.
  • Your name and email.
  • A tick to confirm you own or manage the venue, and are happy for unplan to suggest it to couples.

Then tap Submit as a Date Night Candidate. You will see You’re a candidate. and we email you a receipt.

What happens next

  1. A person reviews it. Every submission is read by a person, not a script. It usually takes about five days.
  2. We write our own short description of your place for couples to read.
  3. You hear from us. We email you when we receive your submission, and again when your venue is approved. That email tells you the first week it can appear in sealed plans.
  4. You can make changes before it goes live. Reply to the email with anything that changed, like your hours, a closure or a private event, and we will keep plans away from it.

Putting your venue forward does not guarantee that you appear in plans. We may decline or pause a venue, for example after repeated cancellations.

Who you are matched with: only couples whose budget, distance and food rules suit you.

Table holds

If you take bookings, or told us you can hold tables, you may get a table hold request by email.

When (your local time) What happens
Wednesday, around 9 AM We email you Table for 2? with the date, the time and the first name the table would be under. There are two buttons: Confirm the hold and Can’t this time. Each opens a page on unplan.me where one more tap records your answer. You can also reply to the email.
By Thursday 3 PM Please answer. Declining is fine. It costs you nothing and we plan around it.
Thursday, 5 PM Anything unanswered counts as “can’t this time”, and we plan around it. The link stops working.
Thursday 6 PM to about 24 hours before the table The couple votes (if you need more notice to keep a table, tell us and their vote closes earlier). They learn it is your place only once both have said yes.
The night They arrive under the name on the hold.

Keeping tables for unplan instead. If you would rather not answer a request each week, tell us how many tables you can keep for unplan on a given night. Plans then take those tables without asking you. You hear from us only once a couple has chosen your place, with one Table booked email (party, date, time, name). When the tables for a night are all taken, plans go elsewhere. If the couple’s plans change after that, you get Table released as usual.

The email says a couple’s plan “may include” your venue. Requests go out before anyone has voted, so a hold request does not mean a couple has chosen you yet.

If you confirm

We email you a confirmation with the party size, the date, the time and the name the table is under. Please honour the hold. If something changes on your side, reply to that email as early as you can. We will swap the stop and the couple gets a Plan B, not a closed door. Repeated cancellations may pause your listing.

If the couple does not use the table

If the couple picks another plan, stays in, or does not vote, we email you Table released as soon as we know, so you can give the table to someone else. We never say why, because couples’ votes are private. A released hold never counts against your venue.

If a couple is running late

When a couple taps Running late in the app, you get an email saying the table is running about 10, 20 or 30 minutes late. It asks you to keep the table if you can. If you cannot hold it that long, reply as soon as you can and we will help them find another stop.

If you do not take holds

Couples just walk in. We will never send you a booking you did not agree to.

What couples see

  • Before they vote: a teaser line and four clues: when to leave, the spend, how to get there and what to wear. It never names your venue, your street or your neighbourhood.
  • After both say yes: your venue’s name, what kind of place it is, a short description in our words, your address, the time, and a badge like Table for 2 · booked under a first name when a table is held.
  • On the night: if we have a phone number for you, couples can tap to call you from the screen.

If rain, a closure or a cancelled table changes the night, we may swap a stop. Couples are told straight away.

What we never share

  • How a couple voted. Votes are private, even between the two partners. We never tell you how a couple voted, and never tell a couple which venue declined.
  • Who the couple is. A table hold carries one partner’s first name, the party size and the time. Nothing else.
  • Your contact details. We use your name and email only to run your listing. We keep your contact details while your venue is active and for 24 months after. If your submission is rejected, we keep it for 90 days. Our privacy page has the full detail.

Managing your listing yourself

Every venue on unplan can have a table tent with a QR code. Scan it (or open the link on it) to see how couples find you, then Claim this listing.

  1. Go to unplan.me/business and type your email. We send you a 6-digit code; there is no password and no app.
  2. Type the code, then the code from your tent and your name. A person checks every new claim, usually within a day. If your email is the one we already have for the venue, you are in at once.
  3. Once you’re in you can:
    • Keep tables for unplan, night by night for the next two weeks. Blank means we ask you each time; 0 means none that night. A table is only booked after both partners say yes.
    • See coming bookings: a first name, the party size and the time. Nothing else about a couple.
    • Accept the venue agreement and, as the owner, propose an offer (a welcome drink, a dessert). A person reviews every offer; offers never change where you appear.
    • Print your table tent.

Updating or leaving

You can update or remove your venue at any time. Reply to any email from us, or write to the venues address on unplan.me/help. To keep spam bots out, the address appears after a quick check that you are a person.

You can also decline any table hold at no cost.

The venue terms in short

These are summarised from unplan.me/terms under “Terms for venues”. The terms themselves are what counts.

  • It is free.
  • You confirm that you own or manage the venue, or have permission to submit it.
  • Please keep your hours, prices and booking details up to date, and tell us if something changes.
  • We may write our own description of your venue and use your answers to write the sealed teasers. Teasers never name your venue, street or neighbourhood.
  • If you agree to hold tables, please honour confirmed holds, or tell us as early as you can.
  • We may decline or pause a venue at any time.
  • You can leave at any time.
