A weekend away, tours and classes

Who this is for: couples who would like a night or two away now and then, or a tour, a class or a cruise as part of a date.

unplan can plan a weekend away the way it plans your weekly date: sealed, chosen for you, opened only when you both say yes. It never sells you travel. Your stay and your tickets are booked on the provider’s own site through a link we track, and we may earn a commission from it. That never decides what we pick.

Turning it on

Open Us, then Shared guardrails, and scroll to Weekend away.

  1. Pick what the two of you would spend on a night or two away, everything in: the stay and the things you do there. The amounts are in your city’s currency. Not for us (the default) means we never ask you about a weekend away.
  2. Once you pick an amount, The longest trip there appears: 1 h, 2 h or 3 h from home, by the ways of getting around you already ticked. It is never a flight.

Both are hard limits, like your other rules: a getaway never costs more or takes longer to reach.

“Fancy a weekend away?”

At most once a month, when a weekend two to six weeks away is free for you both (Friday and Saturday for two nights, otherwise one night) and there is something good within your trip time, each of you gets one quiet question on This week, and a push:

Saturday 14 November is free for you both: one night away?

Tap Yes, let’s or Not now. Your answer is private, as with every vote: your partner sees only that you answered, never how. If you both say yes, we start sealing your getaway at once. If either of you says not now, or nobody answers in time, it closes quietly and nothing is said about who did what.

The question counts as one of your five notifications that week. To stop it, open Us, then Notifications, and turn off Fancy a weekend away?. Or pick Not for us under Weekend away.

Your sealed getaway

When it is ready, This week says Your getaway is sealed. Open it and vote, blind. It works like your weekly plan:

  • The teaser gives the weekend and a feel for it, never the place.
  • You each vote in private. A veto opens one alternative, the last call: another place, a different kind of weekend away, or another weekend in the same place.
  • The vote closes within three days, and always at least eight days before you leave, so there is time to book.

When you both say yes, it opens: getting there (how long, and how), your stay, and one to three things to do. Each has its own button:

  • Find your stay on Booking.com opens stays in the right place for your nights, already filtered to what is left of your budget.
  • Book on Viator opens the tour, class or trip we picked.

Under each one: Referral link: we may earn a commission. It never decides what we pick.

Tours and classes on a normal date night

Sometimes the “do” part of a weekly plan is a tour, a cooking class or a cruise rather than a place. It stays sealed like any stop. After the reveal it has a Book on Viator button, and the rest of the evening fits around its start time.

In This week in your city, the guide’s Book any day and Weekend away cards show how long each one takes, the provider’s rating and review count, and Free cancellation when it applies. The rating is the provider’s, not ours.

Every link to Viator from unplan is a referral link: in the app, on unplan.me, in our notes and in the guide’s email. It goes through unplan.me first (that is how we count the click, never who you are) and then straight to Viator’s own page. Booking through it costs you nothing extra. If Viator pays us a commission, it still never decides what we suggest or in what order.

Asking your concierge

You can also ask your concierge, for example “a weekend away in November under £600” or “a cooking class for Saturday”. It suggests one or two options from your city’s list, inside your rules, never a long list. Add as a draft puts one on your list. Once you Confirm it, Book on Viator opens the booking page. Nothing is booked until you confirm. See Your concierge.
