Who this is for: couples deciding what to pay for (if anything), anyone with a gift code, and anyone who wants to cancel, ask about a refund or invite another couple.
unplan is free to start. You can stay on the free plan as long as you like. Paying opens more places, tables held for you, and a few extras.

A held table means we ask the venue to hold it, and tell you if it falls through. It is not a guarantee that every plan has one.
One plan covers both of you. Nobody pays twice, and either of you can manage it.
Free
Every week you get a sealed plan from at-home and low-cost ideas: a park, a café you have not tried, a free event. You vote, you get a last call if someone vetoes, and you keep the journal and the streak.
You also see this week’s premium plan as a locked card. It says A Saturday night plan is also sealed with $2.99 to open.
Set up this date
For $2.99 you set up one date properly. Either you open this week’s locked premium plan, or, when you plan a date yourself, you get three ideas for each part of the evening and three sealed cards for your partner instead of two. It does not make you premium in later weeks.
- You can only open it before either of you has voted on the free card. After that, the option goes away.
- You get the full range of places, a held table, and breadcrumb mode and double dates for that weekend.
- If the plan cannot go ahead for a reason that is not yours, the $2.99 comes back. See refunds.
Keep the Spark
You get a premium plan every Thursday, from the full range of places, including hidden and trending spots. Tables are held where the venue agrees. Breadcrumb mode and double dates are included every week. You can cancel any time.
On the Keep the Spark screen you can choose Monthly or Yearly. The price is shown there.
Early adopters. If either of you ticked the early-adopter box when you joined the waitlist, Yearly shows your offer: $29 for your first year, then $47.99 a year for as long as you stay. It is once per couple. If you expected it and don’t see it, sign in with the address you joined the waitlist with (or your partner can), or write to us from Us → Help and reports.
How to start
- Tap Us, then Upgrade in the Plan section.
- Or tap the Free plan · hidden spots with Keep the Spark row on This week.
- Or tap the locked row on a free plan, which takes you to Set up this date.
Choose Start Keep the Spark or Set up this date. You pay on a secure Stripe checkout page. It supports Apple Pay and Google Pay. In the US, sales tax is added at checkout where it applies. Elsewhere, such as London or Riga, the price you see already includes VAT, and checkout charges it in your own currency (pounds or euros): the app says Prices in US dollars. Charged in GBP at checkout, VAT included.
After you pay, the app shows The Spark is on. It can say Confirming with Stripe… for a few seconds first. If it takes longer, your receipt email is your proof of payment and the Spark turns on as soon as it arrives. The receipt comes from Stripe. We also send both of you an email when the Spark is on.
Managing and cancelling
Either of you can manage it. Tap Us, then Manage in the Plan section. This opens Stripe’s page for your subscription, where you can cancel.
The Plan row shows who pays, the next renewal, and that it covers you both. After you cancel, it shows when it ends.
When you cancel, you keep premium plans until the end of the period you have paid for. If a payment fails, whoever pays gets an email.
Refunds
These are the refund terms from unplan.me/terms.
- Set up this date: if the plan you unlocked can’t go ahead for a reason that isn’t yours (the first stop falls through and we can’t replace it, or we couldn’t build a premium plan that week), we refund the $2.99 automatically. You don’t need to ask. Your own veto or a missed vote isn’t refunded.
- Keep the Spark: cancel any time from Us → Plan → Manage. You keep premium plans until the end of the period you’ve paid for. We don’t refund part-used periods, except where the law says we must.
- Gift codes: once redeemed, the code becomes a Keep the Spark subscription for its length and doesn’t renew.
- Anything else: write to the help address on unplan.me/help and we’ll sort it out.
When an unlock is refunded, whoever paid gets an email.
Gift codes
A gift is Keep the Spark for 3 months ($21.99) or 12 months ($59.99). One code covers both partners.
Buying a gift
Go to unplan.me/gift. You do not need an account.
- Pick a length.
- Tap Continue to payment and pay on Stripe’s checkout page. Tax is added where it applies.
- Your code is emailed to the address you paid with, and it shows on the page you land on. Send it to the couple any way you like.
You can also buy a 12-month gift inside the app: on the Keep the Spark screen, tap Gift Keep the Spark to another couple.
Things to know:
- A code is good for a year from the day you buy it.
- The gift period starts when the couple redeems the code, not when you buy it.
- It runs for its length and does not renew. When it ends, they are back on the free plan and nothing is charged.
- Check that the couple lives where unplan is open. Elsewhere, they would join their city’s waitlist.
- When the code is used, you get an email saying it was opened and when it ends. It never says who the couple is.
Redeeming from a link
If you were sent a link, open it. It opens the unplan app and redeems the code once you are signed in. You see Gift redeemed. Keep the Spark is on for you both.
Redeeming by typing a code
- Open the Keep the Spark screen (Us → Upgrade).
- Tap Have a gift code?
- Type the code. It looks like
GIFT-XXXXX-XXXXX. Capital letters and spaces do not matter. - Tap Redeem.
If the code does not look right, the app says That doesn’t look like a gift code. Check it and try again. If it was already used or has expired, the app tells you.
Either of you can redeem it, and it covers both. If you already have Keep the Spark, a gift is added on top of it. You both get an email when it is redeemed.
Double dates
A double date lets you invite another couple to the same plan.
You can invite another couple with Keep the Spark, or with Set up this date for that date. On the free plan, the app says Double dates come with Keep the Spark or a weekend unlock.
How it works:
- After you both say yes, open your plan and tap Invite another couple for a double date. A sheet opens, Invite another couple.
- Tap Create an invite link and share it with the other couple. The message reads Double date? We have a sealed plan. Join us on unplan. The sheet shows 1 of 2 couples invited.
- Want a bigger night? Tap Invite another couple to add a second guest couple with their own link (up to two guest couples, three couples in all). Each shows Waiting or Joined, and Share link sends the link again. When both seats are taken the sheet says This plan is full.
- They open the link and see a page with the teaser, the date, the spend for each couple and the number of stops. The places are blacked out. It says Places unlock when you and your partner join, and shows how long the invite stays open.
- To join, both of them need to sign up and pair. They tap Get unplan and join them.
- When they join, you get a notification, It’s a double date. Once they have joined, they can open the plan too.
The invite page never shows a venue name, even to the people you invite.
