The questions couples ask before they pair up.
Short answers. For step-by-step help once you're in, see the help page.
The idea
What is unplan, in one breath?
One sealed date plan a week for the two of you, built around rules you set once. You both vote in private; two yeses and it opens. No lists, no scrolling.
What does "sealed" mean?
Thursday's card shows the mood, when to leave, what it costs, how you'll get there and what to wear. Not the place. The place appears only after both of you say yes.
Can we see a list of options?
No. You get one plan, and one alternative if someone vetoes. That's deliberate: choosing is the chore we take away.
Who picks the places?
Code filters real venues against your rules: distance, budget, opening hours, food rules and free nights. A language model picks from that shortlist and writes the card. It can't add a place, and every line is checked so it never names one.
Will we get sent somewhere we have already been?
Not within 12 weeks, and never to a place either of you rated "Not really".
What if our rules are too strict?
If fewer than five nights fit, we tell you both and offer to loosen one thing for that week only. A change sticks only if you both agree; otherwise you get a free at-home plan.
Voting
Can my partner see how I voted?
No, never. They see that you voted, not how. Reminders never reveal a vote either. The same goes for your Sunday rating.
When does voting close?
Friday at 6 PM, your city's time. If one of you hasn't voted by then, Saturday becomes a free at-home plan.
What happens if one of us vetoes?
You both see the last call: exactly one alternative for the same night. Both of you have to accept it. Veto that too and you stay in with a free at-home plan. One veto a week.
What if we can't make Saturday?
Set your free nights when you set your guardrails; we only plan nights you have marked free. You can also skip a week from the home screen and keep your streak.
What if it rains, or the place closes?
We re-check every stop up to 30 minutes before and swap just that stop for one that passes the same rules. You both get told at once, and you can keep the original.
Money
What's free?
A sealed plan every week from at-home and low-cost ideas (parks, cafés, free events), the blind vote, the last call, the Sunday afterglow and your journal. No table holds, no breadcrumb mode, no double dates.
What does "Just this weekend" buy?
For $2.99 it opens this week's locked premium plan: the full venue pool, a table held, breadcrumb mode and double dates for that weekend. It doesn't book a night of your choosing.
Do we both have to pay for Keep the Spark?
No. One subscription covers both of you, and either of you can manage it. $7.99 a month or $59.99 a year.
Can I get a refund?
Just this weekend is refunded automatically if the first stop falls through and we can't replace it. Keep the Spark can be cancelled any time and runs to the end of the period you paid for. The full terms are on the terms page.
Can I give it as a gift?
Yes: Keep the Spark for 3 months ($21.99) or 12 months ($59.99). A redeemed code runs for its length and doesn't renew.
Cities
Where is unplan open?
Phoenix, Boston, Austin and San Francisco, then one city a week.
We live somewhere else. What happens if we sign up?
Your home base puts you on that city's waitlist. Leave your email and we'll tell you the Thursday it opens. The size of each city's list decides which one opens next.
Is 6 PM our local time?
Yes. The plan lands Thursday at 6 PM in your city's time zone, and voting closes Friday at 6 PM the same way.
Privacy
What can my partner see?
The shared guardrails and who changed them, that you voted, the plan once you've both said yes, and the journal photo. Not your vote, your rating, your notification settings or anything you tell support.
Do you track our location?
No background location, ever. Checking in on the night is a tap. Your home base is a point on the map, not your street address.
What does a venue learn about us?
Only what a table hold needs: a first name, the party size and the time.
Getting the app
Do we need to download an app?
No. unplan runs in your browser at app.unplan.me and installs to your home screen. Each of you needs a phone, iPhone or Android. The help page has the steps.
Why does the Thursday notification need the home-screen app?
On iPhone, web notifications only reach apps added to the home screen, after you allow them. The Thursday card always comes by email too, so you won't miss it.
Installing to your home screen, pairing links, changing city, refunds and deleting your account have step-by-step answers on the help page. The full prices and refund terms are on pricing and terms.
