Most disagreements about plans are not about the plan. They are about being the one who said no.
The cost of saying no out loud
When one of you says "not feeling it", the other hears a judgement of their idea. So people say yes to things they do not want, and quietly resent them.
What a private veto does
In unplan you each vote without seeing the other. You only learn that your partner voted, never how. A veto is a quiet signal to the system, not a verdict on a person.
What the last call is for
A veto does not leave you with nothing. It opens exactly one alternative for the same night, built to differ from the first in at least two ways. Accept it, or stay in with a free at-home plan. There is never a third card, so there is nothing to shop around for.
