Your city: what's on, the city guide, Saved for us, and a night for yourself

Who this is for: anyone with unplan, including people whose partner has not joined yet.

You don’t need your partner in the app to start. Three things work for one person on their own, and they keep working once you are a pair.

This week in your city

Us → This week in your city, or While you wait: see what’s on this week on Home while you wait for your partner.

  • A short list of events, openings and free things around town, taken from the city’s listings and checked by us. It is fresh every day.
  • Pick Tonight, This weekend, Next 7 days or Coming weeks, and Free only if you like.
  • Our pick marks something we think is worth it. Nobody pays us to be a pick.
  • Open goes to the organiser’s own page. Some of those pages pay us a small referral if you book. That never changes what we show you or the order you see it in.
  • On the waitlist? You can still use the app while your city gets ready: what’s on in your city, Saved for us, your idea box, your date style, the romance quiz, your special dates, the journal and everything on Us. Only the weekly plan, a night for yourself, an organised date and the concierge wait for your city to open.
  • Live in two cities? Add the second one in Us → Second city, then tap a city in the Which city row to see what’s on there. Each week you also get a sealed plan in each city and pick the city first. See Living in two cities.

Your city’s page on the web

Every city has one page on the web: unplan.me/ and your city’s name (for example unplan.me/riga). It says whether unplan is open there, opening by invitation, taking a waitlist or paused, and what to do next (Pair up, or join the waitlist). Below that come the city’s guide (when it has one), with Worth knowing (the things we’d point a friend to, each with why), On the calendar (the dates couples in the city plan around, like a light festival or Valentine’s Day, each with the last easy day to plan it and, when it is close, a gift idea), Places we checked ourselves, and a few short answers about unplan in your city. Older addresses like unplan.me/cities/riga still work and take you there.

Places we checked ourselves

unplan.me/ your city /venues lists the places our team has checked for dates in that city: restaurants, bars, cafés, galleries, theatres and more.

  • Filter by kind of place, area, price, indoors or outdoors, free, and whether you can book; Reset clears them. A map shows the places on the page.
  • Each place has its own page with what it is in our own words, why it suits a date, the practical facts (price for two, hours, how to book) and when each fact was last checked, with where it came from. When we don’t know something, the page says so.
  • The list is in a fixed order (kind, then area, then name). It is not a ranking: nobody pays to be on it or to be higher up, and we show no ratings or reviews.
  • Their own page goes to the place’s website through a tracked link; some places may pay us a referral, which never changes the list.
  • In the app, a guide item at one of these places has About and the place’s name in its sheet, which opens the same page.

Your city’s guide

Some cities have a full guide, on the web at unplan.me/ and your city’s name (for example unplan.me/riga) and in the app under This week in your city.

  • It has Today, Tonight, This weekend, Next 7 days, Running now (exhibitions, seasons and other things on for weeks), Weekend away (trips of a night or more) and Book any day (tours, tastings and day trips you can book for any day), New openings, Free things, Rainy day and Cool date ideas: two or three things that are on, put together into one evening, some free and some paid.
  • Book any day and Weekend away cards come from a tours and activities site (Viator first), in the order its travellers rate them, never by price or commission. Each card shows how long it takes, the provider’s rating and review count, and Free cancellation when it applies. The rating is the provider’s, not ours.
  • Rainy day shows what is on indoors first, then indoor classes and tours.
  • Tap a theme, like Music or Outdoors, to see only that. A theme’s page lists its classes and tours after the shows.
  • Dates, times, prices and links come from the places’ own listings. We never make up an event.
  • For you: in the app the guide opens on what matches your interests this week, soonest first; scroll on for everything else. Your interests are the Shared interests you picked together (see Date night and interests) and what your own Your date style answers point to, so answering the weekly card changes it. Your partner’s answers never count in your guide, and we use nothing else about you.
  • Each interest is a chip with how many things are on for it, like Art · 4: tap it to see only those. Everything shows the whole guide.
  • Book on Viator (a tour, class or trip), Book (tickets elsewhere) or Open goes to the place’s own page. Each is a real link: you can open it in a new tab or copy its address. Some of those links pay us a small commission if you book; the page says so at the bottom. It never changes what we pick or the order.
  • Each thing on the guide has its own page on the web: tap its name. It says why it makes a good date (in our own words, from what the place lists), who it suits and what’s on nearby the same evening. From there: I want this (it saves it to Saved for us; if you don’t have an account yet, it waits until you’ve signed up; nothing is booked or held until you book it yourself), Send to my partner (your phone’s share sheet or a copied link; we send nothing), Add to calendar, and Book or Read more. When you send it from the app, the page tells your partner it’s from you, using the name you gave us. When something has ended, its page goes to its next date, or says it has ended and shows a few things still on instead. A link shared on social or in a message shows a small card with the name, the day, the place and the price.

Tap a card to open it: why it makes a good date, who it suits, what’s on nearby, and Book, Save for us, Send to my partner (the page on unplan.me, which tells your partner it’s from you), Add to calendar, your blind date pool and Set up a date around it. On a class or tour, the sheet can also show What travellers say, up to three short reviews with where they came from, when the provider gives us them; otherwise it shows the provider’s rating and review count. Ask my concierge about this makes it a private draft for your concierge (see Your concierge). Set up a date around it opens Plan a date yourself with the thing at the top (“Around: …”): it’s a hint for you while you pick the night and the places, not a booking, and it only becomes a card if it fits your guardrails. A link from the guide on the web (I want this) opens it in the app and saves it; if you weren’t signed in or haven’t paired yet, it waits until you have.

Coming up from Saved for us: when something you saved starts in the next 7 days, it shows at the top of This week (up to three, soonest first). Tap one to open Saved for us. Only you see it, and we don’t send a notification for it.

Each card has More:

  • Invite your partner for a quick date opens your phone’s share sheet with the idea and a link to its page, which says it’s from you. You choose who gets it; we send nothing.
  • Add to our blind date pool gives us a private hint for a future sealed plan. Your partner never sees it, and it never changes a plan that is already sealed. You can take it out again, and up to 20 can be in your pool.
  • Add to calendar gives you a calendar file or a Google Calendar link.
  • Share sends the link to anyone.
  • Find an alternative shows up to three similar things on around the same time.
  • We went and Not for us keep it out of For you for six months, for both of you. It still shows in the rest of the guide, and your partner never sees your answer. After We went you can say We’d go again, and it can come up in For you again. Undo my answer takes it back.

City news, the calendar and weekly notes:

  • City news on the guide is what the places themselves announce: their newsletters and their news feeds, put in our own words, with every date, time, name and price checked against what they wrote. News shows for about two weeks, or until the day after the date it mentions. When a newsletter announces a dated event, the event goes on the guide and the calendar too.
  • The calendar at unplan.me/ and your city’s name, then /calendar (for example unplan.me/riga/calendar) lists everything dated, day by day, for the next ten weeks. Subscribe adds it to your calendar app, which refreshes it twice a day.
  • Filter the calendar on the web: pick topics (Music, Film, Comedy, …), days of the week or Free only, then Show. It shows two weeks at first; Show more adds a week. Surprise me picks three things at random from what matches (Another three for more).
  • In the app, Calendar: what’s on, day by day on This week opens the same calendar starting from your own settings: your interests, Within our budget, Near home and your date night, leaving out what you marked We went or Not for us. Tap a chip to turn any of them off, pick other days or Every day, or Try something new for things outside your usual interests. Back to our settings puts it back. Something whose price or place isn’t listed still shows, so check it before you go.
  • This week in your city is a short note every Thursday on unplan.me/notes when there are at least ten things on in the coming week: a few lines from us and the list, each linking to its page. Under Book any day this week it may add up to three tours or classes from the guide’s Book any day, each with how long it takes, the provider’s rating and Free cancellation when it applies. Those links are marked Referral link: we may earn a commission if you book, and it never decides what we list.
  • None of this uses anything about you, and none of it is a sealed plan.

The guide by email: on the web page, leave your email under The guide, once a week. We send one email with a link; tap it and tap Confirm to start. Then it comes every Thursday morning, and every email has a one-click unsubscribe. If you don’t confirm, we delete your address after 7 days. It can also show one trip from Weekend away and up to two things from Book any day (referral links, said at the bottom of the email). If you signed up with the same email as your unplan account, the email also lists Coming up from your saved list: things you saved that start in the next 7 days (yours only, never your partner’s).

Saved for us

Tap Save for us on anything you like. It goes to Us → Saved for us.

  • Only you see your saves. Your partner never sees them, so a surprise stays a surprise.
  • Your saves stay yours when your partner joins.
  • Remove takes one off the list.

A night for yourself

Us → A night for yourself, or Plan a night for yourself at the bottom of This week.

  1. Pick a night. It has to be one of your free nights (Us → Shared guardrails).
  2. We suggest a few places for each part of the evening: Dinner, Do and After. Each one is inside your guardrails: your distance, your budget, how you get around, your food rules.
  3. Tap the ones you want (one for each part, or just one part), then Plan my night.
  4. Your night is set: the places, the times and when to leave. There is no vote, because you chose it.

Your planned nights are listed under Your nights at the top of A night for yourself. Tap one to see it again, or Remove this night to take it away. Nothing was booked, so nobody else is told.

You see two ideas for each part of the evening. With Keep the Spark you see three. Where there are more, the app says how many.

With two cities, pick the city in the Which city row first. The distance starts from your address in that city.

On a paid plan, one Do idea can be a class or a tour. It starts your night at its time, and you book it on the provider’s own site through a referral link.

A night for yourself is planned only in open cities. While your city is on the waitlist, you can still use This week and Saved for us.
